What about a gray bedroom?
The master bath is a grayish dark purple. I wanted a more neutral and light color for the bedroom. I keep coming back to light gray but am worried that it will be kind of drab and that people will think it odd. I thought maybe some dark purple velvet drapes and some silver accent lamps might look nice. I'm thinking you need black furniture for this to work and ours is dark brown. Any ideas?

- Sounds very attractive. I've painted several house interiors w/a color called 'China Plate' (a blue/gray dark pastel) as well as my own version of it, only 25-50% of the normal colorant (gray/blue offwhite). Both colors seem to work well w/either brown or black. If it's your house and you like a color - go for it! So what if others think it odd? Chances are the others are odd themselves... *L*
- There are all kinds of gray shades, so it doesnt need to be a drab or cold color. If your furniture is dark brown, Id suggest using a gray that has a very subtle undertone of sage. try this color: "koala bear" by Behr. (I dont know why its named that, because its nowhere near the color of a koala bear). also try "pebble stone", it has less green in it.
- Some shades of gray are quite lovey. Check out "lazy gray" by sherwin williams: http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp My folks had this in their old house with maroon carpet & it looked great. I don't know that you would necessarily need to have black furniture, especially if it what you have is a chocolate brown.
- I think it sounds good. I have light gray in a spare bedroom, never occurred to me anyone would think was odd! I have hand-me-down antique blue furniture and a colorful quilt, so I think it's good the gray kind of fades to the background. I have a friend with a grey bedroom, but is a much darker gray. They have brown furniture too. They have an Amish-style quilt with deep rich colors of purple and blue and black. It all sounds horribly dark, but it is beautiful - warm and calming.
- Light gray should work very nicely. The purple drapes will add rich color accents, and the silver accents elegance. What about bedding? Purple velvet, satin? A quilt with purple and gray in it? Maybe lace, crochet accent pillows? A green plant will also warm up the room a bit. The wood tone furniture usually goes with most colors [ witness mixes in nature ].
