can i dye my orange and yellow shag carpet myself?

I just purchased a 4 bedroom 28 x 80 mobile home which wiped out my savings but its mine bought and paid for. I am a new mother and recently divorced. I love my new home with the exception of the carpet that is actually in really good conditition, is an ugly orange and yellow shag. Besides the fact that I hate it, it clashes with all my furniture and decor and as luck would have it is in almost every single room. I was able to recarpet the living room and master bedroom and cannot afford to do anymore rooms for quite some time and will only be able to do one or two rooms at a time to boot. I have heard that it is possible dye the carpet myself which would be a perfect solution for my problem assuming it is in fact possible and practical. Can you help me?

1. no you can't dye the carpet, would end up worse looking than what you think you have now.
